  8. CHANGES FROM 3.0h TO 3.0h2
  9. --------------------------
  10.  
  11. TEXT:
  12. - Implemented buffered typing for greater speed!
  13. - Implemented Undo for most text operations! Note that Undo typing
  14.   will not undo typing to the last non-typing change, as in most
  15.   programs. It will undo the last block of typed characters. This
  16.   will change in a future version.
  17. - Implemented the Character Set gadget for importing and exporting
  18.   ASCII text. Added a Windows character set option to the popup.
  19. - Fixed clicking at the end of the last line in an article which
  20.   caused the attributes to revert to the default.
  21. - Fixed the problem with phony 'cursors' appearing on blank lines
  22.   and at ends of lines when drag selecting text.
  23. - Fixed the redraw problem with backspacing in kerned or tracked
  24.   text. (Parts of letters were not erased.)
  25. - Fixed the redraw problem with moving kerned or tracked frameless
  26.   text objects. (Parts of the rightmost character were not erased.)
  27. - Corrected cursor placement with tabs. It will now place the cursor
  28.   on the side of the tab you click on, instead of always on the
  29.   right.
  30. - Fixed the use of multiple tabs when custom tab stops had not been
  31.   created.
  32. - Fixed scaling of PostScript ABF screen fonts. (They were not being
  33.   scaled to match the type size.)
  34. - Fixed the rotation of Soft-Logik bitmap fonts. They are no longer
  35.   offset incorrectly, and they're faster now too. PostScript bitmap
  36.   fonts no longer get offset incorrectly, but they may still scale
  37.   incorrectly.
  38. - Fixed move to end of line (Shift Right Arrow) when the line was
  39.   ended with a New Line instead of a New Paragraph.
  40. - Fixed the leading grid option. It still uses global preferences
  41.   instead of document preferences, but no longer causes crashes.
  42. - Fixed the cursor position problem on lines with manual kerning.
  43. - Fixed the problem with the Ok gadget not unghosting in the Manual
  44.   Kern requester.
  45. - Corrected the icons for tabs to match other programs. The left and
  46.   right icons were backwards from the standard set by others.
  47. - Fixed the undesirable snapping of tabs to the nearest 1/16th of an
  48.   inch when they were selected in the Tabs requester.
  49. - Adjusted text highlighting for kerned and tracked text, so that it
  50.   now highlights text in a visually correct manner, even though it
  51.   was technically correct before.
  52. - Fixed the monospaced tracking problem with the narrowest character
  53.   in a font not being monospaced.
  54. - The Line/Fill button in the toolbar now works for text when the
  55.   Text tool is selected.
  56. - Added a Ctrl C mnemonic for unicode 8216 (quote single left): 'l
  57. - Added a better Ctrl C mnemonic for unicode 8217 (quote single
  58.   right): 'r  (You can still use the old mnemonic listed in the
  59.   manual.)
  60.  
  61. OBJECT MANIPULATION:
  62. - Increased the speed of the Group command by approximately 1000%.
  63. - Implemented external drawing objects.
  64. - Line/Fill attributes can no longer be applied to groups. (In prior
  65.   versions, they were applied to the group's bounding box. In the
  66.   future we plan to allow Line/Fill attributes applied to groups to
  67.   be applied to the group's subobjects, as in v2.2, but for now, it
  68.   is simply disabled to avoid confusion.)
  69. - Changed the way drawings and compound objects work, so that
  70.   attributes such as rotation are applied to the object, not to its
  71.   subobjects. This makes it considerably faster, and allows external
  72.   drawings to be rotated and scaled without affecting the external
  73.   file.
  74. - Fixed the problem with outlines for rotated drawing objects.
  75. - Undo resizing of a frameless text object now works as expected.
  76. - Fixed resizing of paths end over end. The width and height remain
  77.   positive now.
  78. - Fixed the crash bug with 0 copies and Transform. It now works as
  79.   documented in the manual.
  80. - Fixed Distribute so that it no longer takes the line thickness
  81.   into account when calculating the bounding box.
  82. - Fixed Distribute so that Left/Center Right distribution place all
  83.   objects inside the bounding box.
  84. - Added more busy pointers when applicable for object manipulation.
  85.  
  86. POSTSCRIPT PRINTING:
  87. - Fixed the problem with printing DMF (and some other fonts) to
  88.   PostScript level 1 printers.
  89. - If you couldn't get special characters to print on your PostScript
  90.   printer, they should print now. A number of PPD files for popular
  91.   printers are lacking two mandatory parameters. PageStream will now
  92.   default to the most likely value if the parameters are missing.
  93. - Monospaced tracking now prints correctly.
  94. - Fixed printing of compound objects. (ProDraw and ProPage files use
  95.   compound objects.)
  96. - Fixed printing of gradient filled text shadows. Note that shape
  97.   filled shadows will print as solid at this time.
  98. - EPS files printed to disk no longer have an EOF, even if "Include
  99.   EOF" is on. The EOF caused problems when PageStream3 generated EPS
  100.   files were printed from some PC and Mac programs such as XPress
  101.   and PageMaker.
  102.  
  103. NON-POSTSCRIPT PRINTING:
  104. - Fixed printing of gradient fills with landscape orientation.
  105.  
  106. OPEN/SAVE/IMPORT/EXPORT:
  107. - Increased the speed of importing drawings by approximately 1000%.
  108. - Increased the speed of loading documents with drawings by
  109.   approximately 1000% for the portion of the load time related to
  110.   the drawings.
  111. - Fixed the crash problem when saving files with names longer than
  112.   30 characters.
  113. - Fixed the problem with Black coming in as Black.1 from Art
  114.   Expression EPS files.
  115. - Fixed the problem with documents being saved in the wrong
  116.   directory.
  117. - Fixed the paragraph spacing problem when opening ProPage
  118.   documents.
  119. - Improved the speed of loading and saving IFF ILBM and PCX
  120.   pictures.
  121. - Made the TIFF filter import files with extra Photoshop channels.
  122.   The channels will be ignored, but the files can now be imported.
  123.  
  124. MISCELLANEOUS:
  125. - When you place the insertion point and then choose the Object
  126.   tool, the text object will now be selected instead of the
  127.   previously selected object. It now works the same as PageStream2.
  128. - Fixed the annoying problem with rounding errors when scrolling
  129.   the screen. (Parts of the screen would appear 1 or 2 pixels off.)
  130. - Fixed the problem with creating more than 10 documents, chapters,
  131.   master pages or colors all based on the same name. ie, untitled.1,
  132.   untitled.2..., in which the numbering went from .10 to .111 to
  133.   unusual numbers. This could potentially crash the program, and
  134.   was most noticeable in importing ProDraw Clips.
  135. - Fixed the minor problem with small black lines appearing next
  136.   to the vertical scroll bar when using the scroll arrow gadgets.
  137. - Added a fractional delay when changing screen modes with the
  138.   Settings/Screen command, to ensure that the PageStream3 screen is
  139.   shut down before a new one is created. (If the new one was created
  140.   before the former is shut down, the second one had to be called
  141.   PageStream3.1, which conflicted with some ARexx scripts.)
  142. - The Insert Page, Delete Page and Move Page commands are now
  143.   ghosted when you're viewing a master page, because they are not
  144.   applicable to this type of page.
  145. - Fixed a keyboard shortcut conflict in the Insert Date requester.
  146. - Opening a new document in a non-English version of PageStream3
  147.   will now use the localized name for the term "View" in the
  148.   document window titlebar.
  149. - Corrected the Reverse and Shadow icons in the Edit palette which
  150.   would switch positions when the insertion point was placed.
  151. - Deleted the Type/Weight command because it was redundant.
  152. - Removed embossing from ruler sub-unit tick marks. This will
  153.   reduce flicker for people with non-flicker free displays, and
  154.   even fractionally speeds up redraws, without detracting from
  155.   the appearance of the rulers.
  156. - Implemented localized unqualified menu shortcuts. (This means that
  157.   the keyboard shortcuts should now be correct for the Object menu
  158.   in the German version of PageStream3.)
  159. - Made it impossible to use Ctrl shorcuts for grayed out Type menu
  160.   commands.
  161. - Printer drivers now use AmigaDOS system alerts rather than custom
  162.   alert requesters.
  163.  
  164. SEND TO EDITOR:
  165. - Fixed the problem with > signs coming back from the editor as >>.
  166. - Double dashes will now come back as en dashes, and triple dashes
  167.   as em dashes. Typewriter quotation marks will still not be
  168.   converted to typographic quotation marks because this may be
  169.   disconcerting to some people.
  170.  
  171. MACRO SCRIPTS:
  172. - Implemented the Print Signature macro script. Note that it works
  173.   differently than documented on page 316 of the manual. Refer to
  174.   the help system for details. (Note that it does not yet work with
  175.   automatic page numbering; you must number pages manually.)
  176. - Implemented the Find OverSet Text macro script. Note that it
  177.   displays the first page it finds with overset text. You should
  178.   correct the text and then run the macro again. It will alert you
  179.   when there is no overset text.
  180. - Added a new Insert Signature Block macro. This lets you append
  181.   your signature block to the end of your letters. The first time
  182.   you use it, it will ask you to create your signature block.
  183. - Rewrote the Automatic Text Frame macro script. It now takes an
  184.   argument of DEFAULT which will create the new frame with the
  185.   master page's margin and column guide values, rather than using
  186.   the size of the current frame. The default PageStream3.macros
  187.   file's Macros menu command works the same as before, and F4 is
  188.   assigned to execute it with the DEFAULT argument. This is useful
  189.   if the current frame doesn't match the next page's frame. i.e.,
  190.   the first page is a cover sheet, and if you need a second page,
  191.   you'd rather not leave room for a letterhead.
  192. - Corrected the Open Template macro data for Avery labels size 5196.
  193.  
  194. MACROS:
  195. - Fixed the problem with recording some import/export operations.
  196. - New commands: GETSCREENDPI, GETSELECTEDOBJECTS, GETARTICLEOVERSET,
  197.   GETARTICLEIDS.
  198. - New parameters: GETCURSOR, GETOBJECT, GETCHAPTERS, CREATECOLUMNS.
  199. - New parameters: EDITTEXTOBJ (requires TextFX extension)
  200. - Increased the speed of the MAKECOMPOUND command by approximately
  201.   1000%.
  202. - GETARTICLE FRAMES now starts numbering from 0 rather than 1, to
  203.   maintain consistency with other commands.
  204. - Fixed the ARTICLEID parameter in all applicable commands.
  205. - You can now pass arguments to external scripts when executing them
  206.   from an internal macro. Syntax: RX "script arg1 arg2..."
  207.  
  208. PAGELINER:
  209. - Added a missing Settings/Help command to access its help system.
  210. - Added Right Amiga I as a short cut for Project/Insert.
  211.  
  212. BME:
  213. - Dramatically increased the speed of painting.
  214. - Fixed the problem with recording the setting of the brush size.
  215. - No longers displays a busy pointer after each macro paint action.
  216. - Fixed the problem with black and white being reversed when
  217.   converting a B&W picture to color.
  218. - Fixed a potential crash problem when cancelling Convert, or when
  219.   converting to the same type and depth.
  220. - New ARexx command: GETSCREENDPI.
  221.  
  222. WORDWORTH DOCUMENT FILTER:
  223. - This filter is sold separately, but if you own it and have it
  224.   installed, it has been updated to the latest version.
  225. - Fixed the problem with landscape documents opening as portrait.
  226. - Fixed the problem with out of order tabs. (PageStream expects tabs
  227.   to be sorted, whereas Wordworth saves them in the order they were
  228.   created.)
  229. - Fixed the problem with non-filled tabs being imported as tabs
  230.   filled with spaces.

  232. TRUETYPE FONT ENGINE:
  233. - This engine is sold separately, but if you own it and have it
  234.   installed, it has been updated to the latest version.
  235. - Updated for compatibility with the new TextFX extension.

  263. KNOWN PROBLEMS:
  264. - You cannot apply colors to text using the Color Palette.
  265. - You cannot customize a type style's color/line/fill attributes
  266.   within a style tag.
  267. - The Word, WordPerfect, Illustrator EPS and Freehand EPS filters
  268.   are not complete. They work to a limited degree but don't support
  269.   all attributes or file versions.
  270. - You can't copy and paste (or duplicate/transform) text frames.
  271. - Resizing rotated objects does not work as expected.
  272. - Rotated text does not work properly.
  273. - Typing past the end of a frame will not advance the cursor to
  274.   the next frame if the next frame is on another page.
  275. - Spot colors are separated as process colors. Color seps are not
  276.   very good yet.
  277. - Applied bold and italics aren't done for all font types yet.
  278. - Fonts are not uncached when memory is low, and the program can
  279.   crash if there isn't sufficient memory to load a font.
  280. - Arrowheads cannot be printed with this version, even though they
  281.   did print in 3.0h. This is due to work in progress, sorry.
  282. - Only pictures should be left external at this time.
  283. - You can't drag in the Document Structure palette yet. Click on
  284.   the icons to create a chapter or masterpage.
  285.  
  286. NOTES:
  287. - If you need to force a screen redraw because PageStream didn't
  288.   properly redraw the screen, choose Macros/Refresh Window. This
  289.   is assigned to F10 as the default.
  290. - For most Canon printers, choose the Epson driver from Printing
  291.   Preferences' Type popup gadget.
  292. - The Type/Weight command was removed because it was redundant.

  294.  
  295. BONUS FEATURES NOT IN THE MANUAL
  296. --------------------------------
  297. - New Emboss and Sharpen effects for BME have been added! Refer to the help
  298.   system for information.
  299. - You can now do math in text gadgets in PageStream3. For example, if a
  300.   box's left coordinate is 8.125" and you want to move it right by 0.333"
  301.   but can't add that in your head, just enter the following into the Edit
  302.   palette's appropriate text gadget: 8.125"+0.333. When youpress Tab or
  303.   Return, the expression will be evaluated and its sum of 8.458" will
  304.   appear in the text gadget. The following math operators are supported:
  305.   + add; - subtract; * multiply; / divide; () parenthetical expressions.
  306.   Additionally, `pi' (3.1416...) may be entered.
  307. - Added two new popup gadgets to the Edit palette Character view for type
  308.   size and width. This makes changing the type size more convenient.
  309. - Added more preset type sizes and widths to the Font requester scrolling
  310.   lists.
  311. - Added four new default page sizes for envelopes and compact discs to
  312.   the New Document page size popup gadget. If you have a page size default
  313.   request, let us know.
  314. - For large screens only (900-1000 pixels wide): Added Insert Date and
  315.   Insert Time icons to the toolbar. If your document window is not wide
  316.   enough, you will not be able to see these icons; they are just a bonus
  317.   for those with large screens.
  318. - The Undo and Redo commands will change names to reflect what would be
  319.   undone or redone. ie, Undo Move, Undo Scale.
  320. - New "Mail Merge" script. See the help system for more information.
  321. - New "Print Font Specimens" (FontSpec.rexx) script. This will print a font
  322.   specimen sheet for each font installed in PageStream. (One font per
  323.   sheet. An option to print multiple fonts on a sheet will come later.)
  324. - New "Place Graphic At" (PlaceGraphicAt.rexx) script. This will import
  325.   graphics in a similar fashion to PageStream2.2. Shift drag to maintain
  326.   aspect ratio is supported.
